The Best Southern Green Beans
I absolutely love Green Beans and Southern Green Beans are my favorite. My husband, not so much. But these are the best and when he eats these he actually says they’re good, which just warms my heart. This recipe is quick, easy and budget friendly using your preferred canned green beans. Of course, once fresh green beans are in season, it’s a perfect change up to use those and adjust your cook time accordingly.
My grandma was the best cook. I don’t believe anyone would dispute that. She knew how to take the simplest ingredients and turn them into the most divine meal. Almost like a wardrobe and changing your accessories can gain different looks, changing ingredients for food can give a completely different taste. I learned this skill from watching and helping my grandma in the kitchen. She was a wealth of information.
For the Best Southern Green Beans you need canned green beans, bacon, onion and salt and pepper. Quick, easy, budget friendly and most of these are staples on hand. This side dish for dinner can be served with just about anything, or eat as a meal in itself.
The Best Southern Green Beans
Ingredients
- 2 14 oz Cans of Green Beans
- 6 Regular Strips of Bacon – cubed
- ½ Medium Onion – Finely chopped
- Salt & Pepper to Taste
Instructions
- Chop Bacon strips into cubes and place in large sauce pan or skillet.
- Cook bacon to desired doneness, I like mine crispy. Stir to keep from sticking.
- Add finely chopped onion and stir occasionally to keep from sticking. About 2 minutes or until translucent.
- Open cans of Green Beans and add to pan along with the liquid. Heat thoroughly.
- Add Salt & Pepper to taste. Serve hot.
